Google has a web browser

So I find out today that Google has come out with their own web browser. I guess it was bound to happen since they are working more and more on the applications side of things, whether that's bringing desktop apps to the web or vice versa.

I know from experience how much of a nightmare it can be to write something wonderful and then hack it to pieces to get it to work well in IE. I believe the saying is 'if you want something done right, do it yourself.' Well Google is going to do just that.

Now comes the eternal question, is that a good idea? I think it depends on a lot of things but it can be a very good thing. I'm a believer that more competition for be good. I also think that Chrome could grab more market share from IE since it's Google and they can do no wrong, right?

My first experience using Chrome is pretty impressive for a beta app. In fact I'm using it now to write this post. It's super fast as displaying pages as well as handling a large number of tabs using minimum resources. The biggest thing missing is extensions such as Firefox has. I don't know to what extent but apparently Chrome is built on Firefox codebase so maybe porting extensions over will be easy. I hope so because even Firefox could use some good competition. It is a win-win for everyone.

Anyways, I think everyone should give Chrome a try.
